The best Zendesk alternatives and competitors in 2026 are Gleap for software teams that want support, bug reports and product feedback in one workspace, Freshdesk for classic ticketing at a lower price, Zoho Desk for the lowest per-agent price, Intercom for AI-first messaging, HubSpot Service Hub for teams that run on HubSpot, Help Scout for email-first support, Front for shared inboxes, Gorgias for ecommerce stores, LiveAgent for a built-in call center and Crisp for small teams. Every price below comes from the vendor’s own pricing page, checked on September 26, 2026.
Gleap publishes this guide and is on the list. It gets the same treatment as every other tool: who it fits, what it costs and where it falls short.
Why Teams Look for a Zendesk Alternative
Zendesk is a mature service platform with ticketing, messaging, voice, a help center, AI agents and enterprise controls. As of September 26, 2026, Suite Team costs $55 per agent per month billed annually and the email-only Support Team plan costs $19 (Zendesk pricing). Zendesk’s AI agents include 5 automated resolutions per agent a month on Suite Team and 10 on Suite Professional; extra resolutions cost $1.50 committed or $2.00 pay-as-you-go (checked October 3, 2026). Our Zendesk pricing guide breaks down every plan, the add-ons and what example teams pay.
For large service organizations, that depth is the point. Smaller software teams usually start looking when one of three things happens: per-agent pricing grows faster than the team, the setup needs more administration than they have time for, or support needs to connect to product and engineering work that Zendesk leaves to other tools.
Zendesk Competitors by Segment
Zendesk competes with different vendors in each part of its business, so its closest competitor depends on what you use it for:
- Per-agent ticketing: Freshdesk and Zoho Desk sell the same model, tickets across email, chat and phone priced per agent, at lower entry prices.
- AI-first messaging: Intercom, whose company now calls itself Fin and belongs to Salesforce, competes for chat-first support built around its Fin AI Agent.
- CRM-led service: HubSpot Service Hub and Salesforce Service Cloud compete where support runs in the same CRM as sales and marketing.
- Enterprise AI agents: Decagon and Sierra sell AI agents to large companies, often next to an existing help desk. Zendesk bought the AI agent company Forethought in March 2026 to compete here. Our Decagon vs Sierra comparison covers both.
- Shared inboxes and small teams: Help Scout, Front and Crisp compete for teams that want email and chat without a full service suite. See Help Scout vs Zendesk and our list of help desk software for small business.
- Support for software teams: Gleap competes where support connects to product and engineering work: bug reports with logs, feature requests and coding tasks next to the inbox.

Zendesk Alternatives Compared
USD list prices from each vendor’s pricing page, checked September 26, 2026. “Billed annually” is the monthly equivalent of a yearly payment. Most vendors bill AI usage on top of the plan, so the AI agent column shows how each one charges for it.

How We Compared
We read each vendor’s pricing and plan pages on September 26, 2026 and recorded the lowest paid plan with its billing period, the free plan or trial, how the AI agent is charged and whether bug reports capture technical context. “Not listed”, “no in-app capture” and “no logs or replay” mean we did not find the feature on those pages, so check with the vendor if it matters to you. We did not run a hands-on test of every tool. Gleap’s facts come from its pricing page.
What to Look For in a Zendesk Alternative
- Pricing model: per agent, per seat, per workspace or per ticket, and how AI usage is billed on top.
- AI support: answers from your own help content, clear handoff to a teammate and a price you can forecast.
- Product context: user properties, app state, screenshots, logs and replay when a customer reports a bug.
- Channels: email, live chat, in-app messaging, WhatsApp and social, and whether you need phone support.
- Setup effort: how much administration the team needs before it sees value.
- Migration: what the new tool can import from Zendesk and what you rebuild by hand.
For software teams, the deciding question is whether the support platform helps product and engineering learn from customers, or only manages tickets after the fact.
1. Gleap: Best for SaaS and Mobile Product Teams
Gleap is an AI-native customer support platform for SaaS and mobile teams. It combines Kai Support (the AI support agent), a multichannel inbox, live chat, knowledge base software, in-app bug reporting, product feedback software and a public roadmap. On Team and up, Kai Support also investigates hard tickets, and Kai Code opens pull requests your engineers review.
The biggest difference from Zendesk is product context. When a user reports a bug from inside your app, the report arrives with a marked screenshot, replay, console and network logs and device data, linked to the customer and the conversation. Engineering gets something to work with instead of “the dashboard is broken.”
- Best for: software teams that want support, bug reports and feedback in one workspace, with unlimited seats on Team.
- Price: Starter $29 per month billed annually ($35 monthly) with one seat, Kai Support, live chat and in-app bug reporting. Team $149 per month billed annually ($179 monthly) adds unlimited seats, all seven channels, the knowledge base, session replay, the roadmap and every Kai agent: Kai Support with its investigations, Kai Copilot and Kai Code. Pro at $299/month adds advanced reports, LLM model choice, the SOC 2 report and priority support. Enterprise starts at $999 per month and adds SSO. Kai Support is billed by the AI it uses, an estimated under $0.05 per resolution; Kai Code, Kai Copilot and custom agents bill for the work they do.
- Free plan or trial: no free plan; every plan, Starter included, starts with a 7-day free trial.
- Limitation: Gleap has no phone channel, AI usage is a second line on the bill, and email, the knowledge base, session replay and the roadmap need Team, not Starter.
Gleap is rated 4.6 out of 5 on G2 from 63 reviews. See the full Gleap vs Zendesk comparison, how the AI help desk works and how Kai Support answers customers.
2. Freshdesk: Best for Classic Ticketing at a Lower Price
Freshdesk is often the first Zendesk alternative teams evaluate. It covers email ticketing, automation, a knowledge base and reporting, and Freshdesk Omni adds more channels from $29 per agent per month billed annually. Growth costs $19, Pro $55 and Enterprise $89 per agent per month billed annually (Freshdesk pricing).
- Best for: support teams that want a familiar ticketing model with less operational weight than Zendesk.
- Free plan or trial: a 14-day trial. Freshdesk (not Omni) also has a free program for up to 2 agents for 6 months (Freshdesk).
- Limitation: per-agent pricing still grows with the team. The Freddy AI Agent includes 500 sessions once per account, then costs $49 per 100 sessions, and the ideas forum needs Pro. No in-app log or replay capture is listed.
Compare Gleap and Freshdesk or read our list of Freshdesk alternatives.
3. Zoho Desk: Best for the Lowest Per-Agent Price
Zoho Desk is a multichannel help desk inside the Zoho suite. Express costs $7, Standard $14, Professional $23 and Enterprise $40 per agent per month billed annually, and a free plan covers 3 users.
- Best for: companies already on Zoho CRM or other Zoho apps, and teams where the per-agent price decides.
- Limitation: Zia’s native generative AI starts on Professional, messaging apps on Standard and telephony on Professional. Exports on Free and Express run 1,000 records per batch, and no public roadmap or in-app bug capture is listed.
See Gleap vs Zoho Desk.
4. Intercom: Best for AI-First Messaging With Fin
Intercom is a customer service platform built around the Fin AI agent, with a polished messenger. Essential costs $29, Advanced $85 and Expert $132 per seat per month billed annually, and Fin costs from $0.99 per outcome (Intercom pricing). The company behind Intercom now calls itself Fin, and Salesforce completed its acquisition of Fin on September 10, 2026.
- Best for: teams that want an AI agent at the center of chat, email and messaging, and can forecast outcome-based pricing.
- Limitation: the bill has two meters, seats and Fin outcomes. Tours, surveys and checklists need Proactive Support Plus, an extra $99 per month, and there is no voting board or public roadmap.
See Gleap vs Intercom and our list of Intercom alternatives.
5. HubSpot Service Hub: Best for Teams That Run on HubSpot
HubSpot Service Hub puts tickets, the help desk and customer records in the same CRM as sales and marketing. Professional costs $90 per seat per month billed annually, plus a one-time $1,500 onboarding fee, and free tools cover 2 users.
- Best for: B2B teams whose sales and marketing already live in HubSpot.
- Limitation: onboarding fee and per-seat pricing, and the Customer Agent spends 50 HubSpot credits per resolved conversation (Professional includes 3,000 credits a month). No feature voting, public roadmap or in-app bug capture is listed.
See Gleap vs HubSpot Service Hub.
6. Help Scout: Best for Email-First Support Teams
Help Scout is a shared inbox that feels close to email, with Docs for the knowledge base and Beacon for chat. Standard costs $25, Plus $45 and Pro $75 per user per month billed annually, a free plan covers 5 users, and AI Answers costs $0.75 per resolution (Help Scout pricing).
- Best for: small teams where email is the main channel and a calm, human support style matters.
- Limitation: built around email. The free plan allows 100 contacts a month, and no in-app bug capture or roadmap is listed.
See Gleap vs Help Scout and our list of Help Scout alternatives.
7. Front: Best for Collaborative Shared Inboxes
Front treats customer communication as shared inbox work across support, account management and operations. Starter costs $25 per seat per month billed annually for up to 10 seats, and Professional $65. Autopilot, its AI add-on, is charged per conversation: $0.05 for triage, $0.39 for a handoff and $0.89 for a resolution.
- Best for: teams that handle complex email and messaging threads across several departments.
- Limitation: seat caps (10 on Starter, 50 on Professional), AI billed per conversation on top, and no feedback board or in-app bug capture listed.
See Gleap vs Front.
8. Gorgias: Best for Ecommerce Stores
Gorgias is a help desk and AI agent for online stores. It is priced by monthly tickets, not per agent: Starter costs $10 per month billed monthly for 50 tickets and Basic $50 per month for 300 tickets billed annually, and the AI Agent costs $0.85 to $1.00 per automated interaction depending on the plan (Gorgias pricing).
- Best for: Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce and Magento stores that answer order questions.
- Limitation: built for commerce. Its app directory lists no Jira, Linear or GitHub app, and no in-app bug capture is listed, so it is a weak fit for software products.
See Gleap vs Gorgias.
9. LiveAgent: Best for Ticketing Plus a Call Center on a Budget
LiveAgent combines ticketing, live chat and a built-in call center. Small costs $15, Medium $29, Large $49 and Enterprise $69 per agent per month billed annually, with the call center from Medium and a 30-day trial.
- Best for: teams that need phone support next to email and chat without an enterprise contract.
- Limitation: social, WhatsApp and Telegram are add-ons or need Large, there is no in-app chat SDK listed, and AI agents are billed in credits.
See Gleap vs LiveAgent.
10. Crisp: Best for Small Teams That Want a Flat Price
Crisp bundles live chat, a shared inbox, a help center and the Hugo AI agent per workspace. Mini costs $45 per month with 4 seats, Essentials $95 with 10 and Plus $295 with 20, on monthly billing, and a free plan includes 2 seats.
- Best for: early-stage teams that want one inexpensive tool for chat and email.
- Limitation: seats come in workspace bundles, conversation history exports only through the API or third-party tools, and no voting board or roadmap is listed. Session recordings need a third-party plugin.
See Gleap vs Crisp.
When Zendesk Is Still the Right Choice
Do not switch away from Zendesk just because a newer tool looks simpler. Zendesk can still be the best fit if you have:
- A large support organization with formal SLAs.
- Multiple brands, regions or contact centers.
- Phone support at scale.
- Dedicated administrators and support operations staff.
- Complex reporting, QA or workforce requirements.
The point is fit. Zendesk is strong for enterprise service operations. It is often less efficient for small and mid-sized software teams that need support to connect closely with product development.
Migration Checklist
If you are moving from Zendesk, plan the switch in phases:
- Decide which ticket history to import and which can stay archived.
- Check how the new tool connects to Zendesk. Zendesk is retiring API tokens: existing accounts cannot create new ones from October 27, 2026, and all tokens stop working on April 30, 2027 (Zendesk OAuth migration, checked September 27, 2026).
- Rebuild or migrate your knowledge base.
- Configure inboxes, routing, SLAs and escalation rules.
- Connect integrations such as Slack, Jira, GitHub, Linear, your CRM and analytics.
- Install the new web or mobile SDK.
- Run both systems in parallel for a short transition period.
- Train the team on the new AI and handoff workflows.
For Gleap migrations, the biggest wins usually come from replacing several tools at once: help desk, chat widget, bug reporting, feedback board and product announcements. The Zendesk migration guide walks through the import and the cutover step by step.
Bottom Line
Zendesk is excellent when you need enterprise service management. It is less compelling when your support workflow is product-led, technical and shared with engineering.
For software teams, Gleap is the alternative that connects customer conversations to AI answers, bug reports, feature requests and code work. If you only need cheaper ticketing, start with Freshdesk or Zoho Desk; if you want an AI-first messenger, compare Intercom; if support runs inside your CRM, compare HubSpot.
