Zendesk is one of the most complete customer service platforms you can buy: ticketing, messaging and live chat, voice, a help center, AI agents and enterprise routing in one suite. It is also priced per agent, sells important pieces as add-ons and takes real administration to run well. As of October 3, 2026, plans cost $19 to $115 per agent a month billed annually, and Suite Enterprise is quoted by sales (Zendesk pricing).
This review covers what Zendesk does, its pros and cons, the pricing and AI costs, what changed in 2026 and which teams should choose it. Gleap competes with Zendesk, so every fact below comes from Zendesk’s own pages with the date we checked it, and we say where Zendesk is the better choice.

What Zendesk does
Zendesk sells two families of plans. Support Team is email ticketing with routing, dashboards, macros and automations. Suite plans add AI agents, a knowledge base, Action Builder, omnichannel routing, messaging and live chat, and telephony. Suite Professional adds Admin Copilot, App Builder, AI writing tools, skills-based routing and an IVR phone tree, and Suite Enterprise adds more on top through Zendesk’s sales team.
Around the core, Zendesk sells add-ons: Copilot for agents at $50 per agent a month, a Workforce Engagement Bundle at $50 and a Contact Center product at $83. Zendesk’s marketplace page says more than 1,200 apps are available (Zendesk Marketplace).
Zendesk pros
- Depth for large operations. Omnichannel routing, skills-based routing, an IVR phone tree and admin AI tools on Suite Professional, with more controls on Enterprise, cover what big service teams need.
- Voice in the suite. Telephony is part of every Suite plan, so phone support does not need a separate vendor.
- One platform for many channels. Email, messaging, live chat, social messaging and voice land in the same workspace with omnichannel routing.
- A large ecosystem. More than 1,200 marketplace apps, and many support tools build for Zendesk first.
- Published AI unit prices. Zendesk’s pricing page lists the price of extra automated resolutions: $1.50 with a commitment or $2.00 pay-as-you-go.
- A low entry price for email. Support Team costs $19 per agent a month billed annually.
Zendesk cons
- Per-agent pricing. Every teammate who answers customers is a paid seat, so the bill grows with every hire. Ten agents on Suite Professional cost $1,150 a month billed annually before add-ons.
- Add-ons on top. Copilot adds $50 per agent a month, and workforce tools and the contact center are sold separately. Ten agents with Copilot cost $1,650 a month.
- AI resolutions are expensive beyond the allowance. The included 5 or 10 resolutions per agent a month cover little volume; at $2.00 pay-as-you-go, 1,000 extra resolutions cost $2,000.
- No free plan. The trial lasts 14 days.
- Setup and administration. A configurable suite needs someone to own triggers, routing, macros and apps. Large teams have administrators for this; small teams often do not.
- Product work lives elsewhere. Bug reports with logs, feature voting and a roadmap need other tools connected through integrations.
Zendesk pricing and AI costs
Zendesk price per agent per month
| Plan | Billed annually | Billed monthly | Automated resolutions included |
|---|---|---|---|
| Support Team | $19 per agent | $25 per agent | 5 per agent a month |
| Suite Team | $55 per agent | $69 per agent | 5 per agent a month |
| Suite Professional | $115 per agent | $149 per agent | 10 per agent a month |
| Suite Enterprise | Quoted by sales | Quoted by sales | Quoted |
Zendesk says the included resolutions go up to 10,000 a year. Beyond them, committed resolutions cost $1.50 each and pay-as-you-go resolutions $2.00 each. Zendesk counts an automated resolution as a customer request the AI agent resolved without escalation to a human agent.
A worked example: 10 agents on Suite Professional include 100 resolutions a month. If the AI agent resolves 600, the other 500 cost $750 committed or $1,000 pay-as-you-go, on top of $1,150 in seats. Our Zendesk pricing guide covers plans and add-ons in more detail.
What changed at Zendesk in 2026
- Zendesk bought Forethought. Zendesk completed its acquisition of the AI agent company Forethought on March 26, 2026 (Zendesk), and its pricing page now promotes Zendesk and Forethought together.
- API tokens are being retired. Since July 28, 2026, new accounts cannot create or use API tokens and tokens unused for 30 days are deactivated. From October 27, 2026, existing accounts cannot create new tokens, and on April 30, 2027 all tokens stop working (Zendesk OAuth migration). Check every integration that reads Zendesk with a token.
Who should use Zendesk
Zendesk is a strong choice if you:
- run support across email, chat and phone with a team of dozens or more,
- need skills-based routing, an IVR, SLAs and workforce tools,
- have administrators who can own the configuration,
- depend on apps built for Zendesk.
Who should look elsewhere
Consider an alternative if you:
- are a small team where per-agent pricing and add-ons are a large share of the budget,
- want an AI agent priced per conversation or with a lower unit price,
- build software and need bug reports with logs, feature voting and a link to engineering in the same tool.

How Gleap compares
Gleap is AI-native customer support for software teams, priced per workspace instead of per agent. As of October 2026, Gleap Free costs $0 with one seat and 50 tickets a month, Team costs $149 a month billed annually ($179 monthly) and Pro $299 ($359 monthly), both with unlimited seats, and Enterprise starts at $999. New workspaces get a 7-day free trial, no credit card required.
| Zendesk | Gleap | |
|---|---|---|
| Price basis | Per agent per month | Per workspace, unlimited seats on Team and Pro |
| 10 agents, billed annually | $1,150 on Suite Professional | $149 on Team |
| AI agent | 5 to 10 resolutions per agent included, then $1.50 to $2.00 each | Kai Support, $0.29 per resolution on Team and Pro, included on Free |
| Phone support | Telephony in every Suite plan | No phone channel |
Team and Pro include all of Gleap’s agents. Kai Support answers customers, Kai Specialist investigates hard tickets, billed by the work it does (about $0.49 per investigation on average) with screen recordings, console and network logs, account data and your code, Kai Code opens pull requests your team reviews, and Kai PM groups feature requests. Bug reports from your app arrive through in-app bug reporting with a marked screenshot, console and network logs and a session replay.
Zendesk is the better choice for phone-heavy support, large contact centers and teams that need workforce management. Gleap is the better fit when your support questions are about a software product and the answers often end in engineering work. The Gleap and Zendesk comparison lists both side by side, and the Zendesk migration guide covers the move.
